The story of Anna Kulec-Karampotis can be your inspiration, and could certainly serve as a script for a beautiful motivational story with New York love in the background. Today, Creative Director and owner of Poland’s first franchise network, once a teenage enthusiast who opened a private salon in a communist reality dominated by State Hairdressing Establishments. Meanwhile, it all started with a love of fashion, specifically dungarees. It was the desire to wear these then-fashionable pants that guided young Anna in her choice of available education. The wrong argumentation regarding the choice of an agricultural school and the natural uncertainty at that age regarding individual predispositions, resulted in a consultation with a psychologist.
The latter confirmed exceptional manual skills and unusual openness to communication with others, so the final choice was hairdressing. The profession ran in the family, so it might seem that it would be easy.
Anna didn’t want it to be easy….
Anna didn’t want it to be simple, she wanted developmental: a high school diploma, women’s haircuts inspired by the burgeoning Europe, her own private salon. In Poland, on the other hand, such solutions were practically unavailable, and ideas were ridiculed.
So how did a teenager in the 1980s manage to open a hair salon in Bielsko-Biała, hire employees, educate students and create a waiting list of clients two months ahead? Then, after two years, live and work in the profession, in New York without any language skills, while owning an independently prosperous salon in Poland?
